Ashoka Changemakers Aboriginal
Education Initiative Report
The Ontario Trillum Foundation has released The Road to the Summit: Inspiring Approaches to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Learning Initiative, the report of a developmental evaluation carried out with a unique Ashoka Changemakers initiative that stimulated and celebrated innovations in Aboriginal education across Canada.

The Changemakers initiative was a unique collaboration among private, public, corporate and community foundations, including the J.W. McConnell Family Foundation, working with Aboriginal organizations and advisors. The evaluation report reflects the bi-cultural nature of the project, incorporating Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal perspectives. To read the full report, click here.

Federal Government Releases
Report on Social Finance
The federal government recently issued a report entitled Harnessing the Power of Social Finance: Canadians Respond to the National Call for Concepts in Social Finance. The Foundation was pleased to see that a proposal it submitted with Aboriginal Savings Corporation — for financing new home construction on Aboriginal reserves — was among 15 highlighted in the report, along with those of several partners and grantees, including Pathways to Education, YMCA Canada, Boys and Girls Clubs Canada, Maytree Foundation, the Omega Foundation and the Carleton Centre for Community Innovation. Foundation grantees The Centre for Impact Investing and the Chantier de l’economie sociale have played an important role in developing the field of social finance in Canada and Quebec respectively.
