By March 2021, the Foundation will address the majority of funding requests received during 2020.
On August 24, 2020, the Foundation decided to pause any new granting activity — while still fulfilling its previous commitments — so as to enable more effective management of the significant number of grants related to COVID-19. The Board of Directors also wished to be able to reflect on and update the Foundation’s strategic directions with the new President and CEO of the Foundation, Lili-Anna Pereša.
The McConnell Foundation joined several other foundations in the Give 5 campaign which called for an increase in the granting quotas to provide much needed support to the social sector during a time of crisis. In fulfilling this commitment, the Foundation has disbursed — to this date — $30.2M for the year. This includes $4.69M in COVID emergency granting.
In January 2021, the Foundation plans to review a pre-COVID backlog of funding requests. By March 2021, the Foundation will address the majority of funding requests received during 2020. Meanwhile, we will continue our process of internal evaluation and reflection, and expect to be able to share an update on our strategic directions in April 2021. The majority of funding applications will be reviewed in the second quarter of 2021.
