Launched in August 2012, in celebration of the Foundation’s 75th anniversary, the Social Innovation Fund (SIF) supports the consolidation and growth of breakthrough ideas and organizations that are building a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient Canada.
To date, six organizations have received support from the fund: Ashoka Canada, to support operations and select Aboriginal Ashoka Fellows; Chantier de l’économie sociale—Commerce Solidaire, to develop a social purchasing portal linking governments and social enterprises; Ecostrust Canada—ThisFish, for a unique food traceability initiative; Jane’s Walk, to adapt the business model of its urban civic engagement program; Réseau Québécois en Innovation Sociale (RQIS), to strengthen a social innovation research and practice network; and Wapikoni mobile, to share its mobile music and video production program with Aboriginal communities outside of Quebec.
