Maureen Forrester, opera star supported by John Wilson McConnell, passes away at age 79

Maureen Forrester, the celebrated Montreal-born operatic contralto, recently passed away on June 16, 2010. Forrester, born in Montreal’s east-end in 1930 to a working class family, discovered her talent by singing in her church choir. She quickly gained recognition for her beautiful voice and was aided by one of her supporters, Mr. J.W. McConnell, in the progression of her career. She went on to sing with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. As well, she was featured in productions by the New York City Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Opéra de Montréal.
