Background

Founded in 1911, Laurier is a university with Faculties of Arts, Science, Music, and Business & Economics on two campuses. Laurier offers an interdisciplinary approach to learning that allows students to combine majors in completely different fields. Experiential learning has been an integral part of Lauriers approach to education since it was introduced in the Department of Psychology in 1971.

This project received funding under Phase II of the University-Based Community Service-Learning Initiative.

Laurier proposes to create a Centre for Community Service Learning, supporting the Laurier campuses in both Kitchener-Waterloo and Brantford with a range of community partners. Innovative features of the Laurier project include faculty awards for curriculum innovation, web-based placement information and sign-up, and administrative incentives such as sabbaticals and merit bonuses for faculty choosing to incorporate service learning into their courses.
