Toronto Atmospheric Fund (TAF)

Background

Toronto Atmospheric Fund invests in urban solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. TAF makes grants to community groups for energy reduction projects; provides loans to social enterprises working in this field; and engages multiple stakeholders to develop breakthrough innovations.

Full Description

TAF’s current priority is to increase investment in energy efficiency retrofits. It does so using technology, finance and policy tools at the local and national level. A grant from the Foundation will enable the Building Value project to accelerate the implementation of energy retrofits in cities across Canada. In order to achieve this goal, four sets of activities are planned: research demonstrating the value of retrofitting buildings; developing market-based solutions to engage the private sector; identifying policies that stimulate energy efficiency; and creating a Canadian community of practice around retrofitting.
