Toronto Artscape Foundation

Background

Launched in 1986, Artscape is a not-for-profit urban development organization and international leader in creative place-making, a practice that leverages the power of art, culture, and creativity to catalyze change, growth, and transformation in communities. Artscape achieves its mission through developing and managing unique cultural facilities—including community cultural hubs, multi-purpose creative spaces and artist live/work projects—and delivering programs and services that promote creativity and cultural space development.

Full Description

A grant from the Foundation’s Social Innovation Fund will match contributions from the City of Vancouver and the Vancity Credit Union to support Artscape in setting up a Vancouver office to prepare business plans and feasibility studies for an Artscape site in British Columbia.

It will also support the research and development phase of a new centre in Toronto, Artscape Launchpad, enabling Artscape to consolidate and share learning about its innovative approach and share lessons in ‘creative place-making’ with an emerging Canadian and global network of social entrepreneurs in this field.
