Teach for Canada

Background

Founded in 2014, Teach for Canada’s mission is to improve equal access to education across Canada. It does this by helping schools in rural, remote and Aboriginal communities recruit and train outstanding classroom teachers as well as providing ongoing support and development.

Full Description

Teach for Canada’s objective is to increase student attendance, student engagement, and student achievement in northern communities by helping teachers succeed. The project aims to achieve this objective through (a) targeted recruiting using community-defined criteria; (b) a four-week community-oriented training program; (c) connecting teachers with communities for a minimum two-year teaching commitment; (d) supporting teachers with professional and personal mentors; and (e) building a strong alumni network.

The Foundation’s grant will be used for personnel, communications, travel, program costs, evaluation and administration.
