Junior Undiscovered Math Prodigies (JUMP)

Background

Founded in 2002, JUMP Math is a national charity dedicated to enhancing the potential in children by encouraging an understanding and a love of math in all students and educators. JUMP Math draws on the latest cognitive science research and the best aspects of math programs from around the world to provide a unique combination of depth, careful scaffolding, continuous assessment and a variety of innovative instructional approaches.

In addition to increasing math proficiency, the JUMP method has been proven effective in boosting students’ confidence and increasing their enthusiasm for learning. Demonstrating that even children who have previously been labelled “slow learners” can excel at math, JUMP Math is changing the culture of math failure from classrooms and communities.

Full Description

A grant from the Social Innovation Fund will be used to support the development and implementation of a train-the-trainer and Teacher Learning Community model, whereby JUMP teachers train and support other teachers. This sustainable training and support model will help support the expansion of JUMP Math across Canada.

Funds from this grant are also being used to strengthen the organization’s current outreach capacity through the exploration of new approaches to user engagement.
