Gaagige Zaagibigaa

Background of the organization

Gaagige Zaagibigaa (GZ), which means forever cultivating, is a grassroots, Indigenous-led organization that supports Indigenous sovereignty through food system transformation.  GZ pools resources from various funders in order to fill the gap in resources available to support self-determined food security projects across Northern Ontario. A Stewardship Council representing different communities in the region makes funding decisions, and GZ provides small grants accordingly.  

Project description

With pooled funding from McConnell and other funders, GZ will disburse modest grants to support household-level food sovereignty and security initiatives across Northern Ontario. Additionally, McConnell funding will support hiring new staff, evaluation, and organizational development.
