Empower Me

Background of organization

Empower Me is a program of the social enterprise Kambo Energy Group and is specifically focused on the inclusion of newcomers in energy efficiency education in British Columbia and Alberta.

Empower Me provides free energy efficiency information and workshops to newcomers to reduce household emissions. They train and pay mentors from the immigrant community to provide culturally appropriate peer-to-peer training while supporting their career path into permanent employment in the energy efficiency industry.

Project Description

Empower Me works with newcomers in Alberta and British Columbia to help them reduce their carbon footprint and in finding employment in the energy efficiency industry. The pandemic has required Empower Me to deliver their programs online, mostly via Zoom. Funding will be used to purchase an appropriate online platform that is accessible to the communities they serve. This will help increase initial outreach and recruitment to provide training to more households. In-person workshops and household visits, when allowed again, will be used for follow ups and continued engagement.
