Canadian Environmental Grantmakers’ Network (CEGN) Low Carbon Funders Group and partners

About the organization

CEGN is a national network of philanthropic foundations and other organizations that support efforts to transition toward a more sustainable world. Its members work with non government organizations, community groups and other charitable organizations to develop and deliver programs that can make communities healthier and more resilient, while protecting vital ecosystem services and the natural world.

Grant Description:

In 2018,  the Canadian Environmental Grantmakers’ Network’s Low Carbon Funders Group supported a number of organizations to influence and improve policies under development through the Pan-Canadian Framework on Climate Change and Clean Growth. Collaborating to maximize impact has enabled this coalition to translate government commitments under the Pan-Canadian Framework into policies, programs and measures that enable the transition to a low-carbon economy and mitigate climate change.

In 2019, a grant from the Foundation will be used to support organizations working to drive further progress in key areas, including federal and provincial methane regulations, energy efficiency in buildings, coal phase-out, carbon pricing, fossil fuel subsidies, zero-emission vehicle strategies and effective oversight mechanisms for climate commitments. The organizations being collectively supported by a group of CEGN funders are:

  • Climate Action Network / Réseau action climat
  • Conservation Council of New Brunswick
  • David Suzuki Foundation
  • Ecology Action Centre
  • Environmental Defence Canada
