Farmers for Climate Solutions

Background of organization

Farmers for Climate Solutions  is a national coalition of farmer-led and farmer-supporting organizations, representing over 20,000 farmers and ranchers, working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase resilience of farming landscapes. The organization works to advance agricultural policies that will help Canadian farmers mitigate and adapt to climate change. It  seeks to build a network of farmers who are advocates for practical climate solutions in agriculture.

Project description

The project is focused on: 1) developing  policy proposals to incentivize uptake of climate-friendly practices by Canadian farmers and ranchers, including reducing nitrogen fertilizer use, increasing use of crops that sequester carbon, and protecting wetlands and trees on farms and 2) using peer learning between farmers to increase adoption of these practices. Funding will be used to facilitate the work of farmer-led working groups on research, policy and peer-to-peer farmer engagement.
