Wilderness Committee

Background

Founded in BC in 1980, the Wilderness Committee is the largest membership-based, citizen-funded wilderness preservation organization in Canada. It has 30,000 members and maintains offices in four provinces.

Full Description

The notion that ecological and social resilience are inextricably linked is not new, but research in this area points to the importance of including socially marginalized groups in the search for durable and just solutions to our growing environmental crisis.

Regional training sessions and related outreach activities were carried out in Vancouver, Northern Alberta (tar sands), Winnipeg, Toronto (youth emphasis) and Nova Scotia.

At the conclusion of an initial round of workshops and follow up activities, it was decided not to proceed with a second phase of the program.
