A grant from the Foundation will support the ILRU in its work to document, reclaim, implement and disseminate Indigenous perspectives on human rights law.

Background of the Org:

The University of Victoria Law School is home to the Indigenous Law Research Unit, the only dedicated research centre on Indigenous law in Canada.

Grant Description:

This project will support Indigenous people’s efforts to integrate human rights into their governance in order to address systemic and individual injustice, and to advance their efforts to build healthy, safe and inclusive communities. This grant will support ILRU in carrying out its work with two Indigenous communities over three years. The ILRU will work with communities to identify goals, analyse published history and stories that could serve as legal precedents, work with communities to synthesise these findings and develop educational materials for multiple audiences to share the findings.
