The DUDES Club

Background of the organization

The DUDES Club was established in the Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside in 2010 and has since expanded to communities across British Columbia. DUDES Club aims to facilitate a participant-led community for men’s wellness with activity-based clubs that prioritize supportive relationships, engagement in healthcare, and Indigenous worldviews. Within DUDES Clubs, the healthcare providers who are involved prioritize cultural competence and safety, genuine connections, and support to help men navigate the healthcare system.

Project description

Funds from McConnell will be used to scale up and out the DUDES Club’s work to support men’s wellness. To scale up their work, DUDES Club will engage with actors across the Canadian healthcare system to shape public policy relating to Indigenous men’s wellness. To scale out their work, and in response to demand from Chiefs across Canada, DUDES Club will open additional chapters in several provinces and territories.  Additionally, DUDES Club will use funds to expand the activities of “NexUp”, a youth-led initiative supporting wellness of masculine-identifying two-spirit, queer, nonbinary and gender-nonconforming youth.
