Student Energy

Background of the organization

Founded in 2009, Student Energy works with a network of 50,000 young people from over 120 countries to build the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to take action on energy. Student Energy operates on a youth empowerment model, in which initiatives are co-created with young people, for young people. In addition to its core programming with a network of 45+ global post-secondary Chapters, Student Energy works with governments, companies, and organizations to facilitate meaningful youth engagement and to mobilize resources to support youth-led energy solutions.

Project description

Student Energy will use funding from the Foundation to support 500 youth-guided clean energy projects in Canadian communities, which will in turn increase the share of renewable energy in Canada’s energy system. Funds will also be used to expand Student Energy into additional universities and colleges and to recruit youth from diverse backgrounds, including supporting Indigenous youth energy leaders.
