History of the organization

The Pembina Institute is working to solve today’s greatest energy challenges — reducing the harmful impacts of fossil fuels while supporting the transition to an energy system that is clean, safe and sustains a high quality of life. Pembina provides expertise to industry and government leaders, and it  advocates for a strong, science-based approach to policy, regulation, environmental protection and energy development.

Project Description

The Pembina Institute will create a project in partnership with women organizations (including Calgary’s YWCA) and with the GLOBE Conference Series to promote women clean energy leaders in Alberta and nationally. It will address women’s job losses due to COVID-19 and work to influence government job creation programs and other post-COVID recovery funding to ensure they increase women’s participation in the clean energy workforce. 

The project aims to increase awareness of the diverse career pathways for women in energy transition, anticipated gaps in critical skills and talent; increase access to information and resources on education, skills, and career development for women (especially youth); and address the barriers to women’s participation in energy transition. This project will link grassroots women’s organizations with decision makers on climate and energy issues, promote stories of female leaders in media and conferences, and reinforce the benefits of increased women’s participation in the clean energy transition. The Pembina Institute will provide policy recommendations to influence the adoption of new public and private sector policies to increase gender inclusion in the net zero economy in Alberta.
