Operation Red Nose of Quebec

Background

Operation Red Nose is a unique program dedicated to preventing drinking and driving. It is a volunteer driving service provided during the Christmas Holiday Season to all drivers who have been drinking or who do not feel fit to drive their own vehicle back home. It is an original and free way of getting a safe ride in your own vehicle without driving it.

Since its creation in Quebec City in 1984, Operation Red Nose has successfully chauffeured over one million rides.

Full Description

Operation Red Nose is one of the Foundations earliest Applied Dissemination grantees, receiving its first grant from the Foundation in 1995 to support the spread of the program across the country. Red Nose came to be known as a model campaign for road safety, generating interest from elsewhere in Canada. To date, twenty-five cities in eight provinces run local operations. National programs include the provision of branded bilingual material at no cost to local operations and umbrella insurance coverage.
