National Theatre School of Canada

Background of the organization:

Established in Montreal in 1960, the National Theatre School of Canada (NTS) offers professional training in English and French in acting, playwriting, directing, set and costume design, and technical production. Students are selected from all over Canada and in a few exceptional cases abroad.

Grant Description:

Funds will help the National Theatre School of Canada (NTS) revamp its programs to include greater emphasis on digital media and community engagement. NTS is planning to develop a more nimble, accessible form of theatre, based in part on the successful Theatre Engaging Communities initiative — building a larger and more open community around the school. As part of these efforts, NTS will develop a plan to repurpose the Monument-National Theatre, making it a hub for creative exploration and a home for young artists and social change leaders.
