Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital

Background of the organization

Since its founding in 1934 by renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Wilder Penfield, The Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital (The Neuro) has grown to be the largest specialized neuroscience research and clinical centre in Canada and one of the largest in the world. The Neuro integrates research, patient care, and training of the world’s top neurological doctors in order to have a significant impact on the understanding and treatment of nervous system disorders.

Project description

The Neuro received a capital campaign contribution through the Foundation’s Montreal funding stream. In 2016, The Neuro adopted Open Science as an operating principle. Open Science is the practice of openly sharing data and research results, eliminating barriers to collaboration and discovery around the globe. The Foundation’s funding will support key strategic areas as part of the Neuro’s open science work: patient engagement and community science, education and knowledge transfer, and incentives & recognition to promote the practices of Open Science within the scientific community.
