Jumblies Theatre

Background

Founded in 2001, Jumblies Studio has organized numerous community arts projects for immigrant and low-income communities in the Greater Toronto area. Since 2006, Jumblies has delivered its community arts program in Ontario and British Columbia; trained 50 interns; delivered over 60 professional development workshops and seminars; and supported 15 new community-based projects with support from funders such as United Way of Greater Toronto, the Ontario Trillium Foundation, and the Canada Council for the Arts.

Full Description

With Foundation support, Jumblies will train local artists and organizations on creating community arts centres in 15 rural and urban areas across Canada, including Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Halifax, and Sioux Lookout. In each location, Jumblies will work closely with a host organization and local partners to deliver its unique capacity-building program. By providing on-going support, Jumblies Studio will promote social inclusion through national and regional collaborations, mentoring dynamic new leadership, and production of high quality art.

At the conclusion of the Foundation’s grant, Jumblies will hold a national symposium focused on project outcomes, while contributing to a national dialogue around community arts.
