Girls Action Foundation

Background

In 1995, POWER Camp was founded by three young women studying at the University of Ottawa (Power Camp National (PCN) began at the University of Ottawa in 1995) to address issues specific to young women aged 10-18 (such as physical and mental health, violence, victimization, barriers, and discrimination).

In girls-only settings, participants engage in activities designed to encourage them to analyze issues critically, place difficult experiences in a broader context, and adopt positive strategies for overcoming personal challenges.

In 2008, the organization changed its name to Girls Action Foundation / Fondation filles d’action.

Full Description

To develop, test and implement a national leadership training program designed for young women 16 to 25 years old in marginalized communities. Responding to a need expressed by its network members, the learning generated through the project will be documented and made widely available.
