Clean Energy Canada

Background

Clean Energy Canada is a program of Tides Canada, the nation’s largest charitable foundation focused on environmental and social justice challenges.

Created in 2010, Clean Energy Canada has successfully aligned a wide range of interests around a shared vision of Canada as an energy efficient, ecologically responsible national with a prosperous, low-carbon economy.

Full Description

Clean Energy Canada will work to accelerate Canada’s transition to a prosperous, low-carbon economy. It aims at broader and deeper collaboration between local and provincial governments, the private sector and civil society organizations working on energy transition, with a particular focus on BC, Alberta and Quebec.

Clean Energy Canada will produce a ‘Clean Energy Progress Index’ to rank provincial progress toward clean energy and demonstrate which provinces have policies which can be replicated elsewhere.

In addition, three provinces (BC, Alberta and Quebec) will be the focus of action to secure and strengthen policies that advance clean energy, economic diversification, carbon reduction and reduced fossil fuel dependence.

The Canadian energy strategy development process will be supported by Indigenous, civil society, provincial and municipal governments, and a cross section of industry leaders. A package of bold policies and programs intended to reduce energy demand while accelerating clean energy innovation and deployment will be created.
