Child Development Institute (CDI)

Background

CDI is a Toronto-based organization with over 100 years experience serving children and families and the home of Stop Now and Plan (SNAP), a violence-prevention program that helps at-risk children manage angry feelings and prevent impulsive reactions. Using a cognitive-behavioural approach, SNAP works with children and youth with conduct and related behavioural problems, many of whom are at risk of interacting with the law. Its evidence-based approach makes it one of the most highly regarded programs of its kind in the world.

Full Description

With 26 Canadian affiliate sites, the high demand for SNAP programming means that it is still in a growth phase. This grant will be used to help CDI implement SNAP in eight new sites across Canada, with a focus on Eastern Canada and including Indigenous communities, enabling it to serve at least 500 more families annually. This grant will also be used to build the SNAP’s program to manage this growth and increase its financial sustainability, through the hiring of key staff positions.
