CDP

Background of the organization

CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project) is a global non-profit that runs the global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impacts. With the most comprehensive collection of self-reported data, the world’s economy looks to CDP as the gold standard of environmental reporting. For more than 20 years, CDP has created a system resulting in unparalleled engagement on environmental issues worldwide.

Project description

Funding will support CDP’s expansion of its stakeholder engagement teams to drive more climate disclosure in alignment with the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and proposed standards by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), commitments to science-based targets (SBTs), and credible climate transition plans across the Canadian economy. Through capacity building, CDP will prepare Canadian financial institutions for mandatory disclosure requirements on financed / “scope 3” emissions while also engaging the highest-emitting corporate sectors to disclose their environmental risks and impacts to CDP. The project ultimately aims to increase the quantity and quality of climate disclosure data and SBT commitments from Canadian companies while raising the level of regulatory ambition for mandatory disclosure utilizing CDP’s voluntary system and model as an evidence base.
