ACORN Canada

Background of the organization

ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) Canada is a multi-issue, membership-based community union of low- and moderate-income people. The organization is driven by social and economic justice to build community power for change.  Its 140,000 members advocate for housing rights and improved laws, including for childcare, fair banking, internet accessibility and social assistance. Each member has a vote, and only members speak for the organization and have the authority to set the policy and determine the tactics of each group.

Its local and national boards are elected directly from our membership.

Project description

Funding will contribute to ACORN’s national policy platform with tenants and leaders nationwide, using grassroots expertise to enhance climate policy efforts.  The project will also contribute to affordable housing initiatives.
