Wahkohtowin Development General Partnership Inc. – Guardian Program

Background of organization

Wahkohtowin is a social enterprise owned by three First Nations (Brunswick House First Nation, Chapleau Cree First Nation and Missanabie Cree First Nation) using a collaborative approach to economic development to build social, cultural, environmental, and economic well-being in the Northeast Superior Region (Ontario). It aims to support First Nations to become full participants within the forestry sector through platforms including sustainable forestry harvesting, cultural activities, housing, guardianship and land-based learning.

Project description

Wahkohtowin aims to scale up the development of a Guardian Program through a partnership with the Outland Youth Employment Program, reaching youth in the Northeast Superior Region. The six-week Guardian Program aims to rekindle original ways of knowing and ‘natural law’ systems while building skills sets, certifications, job-ready experience and exposure to career paths leading to meaningful employment.
