Engineers Without Borders

Background

EWB works in developing countries to address fresh water availability, sanitation and other everyday challenges.

In addition, it operates a network of 22 campus-based and professional chapters in Canada that engage young Canadians in learning about and taking action for sustainability, and runs educational programs on water and related issues in Canada.

Grant Description

This project is one of the Applied Dissemination projects supported by the Foundation.

In 2003, the Foundation made a $90,000 grant to assist EWB in developing its national program. This grant is to enable Engineers Without Borders to increase its ability to plan and manage growth, to build a Canadian chapter network and to expand activities relating to education and outreach in Canada.

Engineers Without Borders chapter activities include a program for high schools on food and fresh water. It is also working with university engineering programs to include content relating to appropriate and ethical development.

At an organizational level, the Foundations grant is supporting Engineers Without Borders adoption of a comprehensive revenue development strategy. (Note that Foundation funds are not being used to support overseas placements).
